The Waiting Game/2 years 7 months

Dear Roman,

This last week has been spent playing the waiting game for your baby sister’s arrival. Still no sign of her in sight and we are getting anxious. You have been asking me every day “Baby Bean come out of your tummy?” Or you’ll pretend that I am going to the hospital to “go get her” as you put it. I have also noticed you being extra loving to me and wanting to know where I am at every moment. You and I have never been apart overnight. Actually the longest I’ve ever been away was for a few hours so the reality of me leaving for an overnight/nights stay at a hospital was a little difficult to explain. There were lots of thoughts expressed like- “you coming back right Mama” and “but I will miss you Mama” when we sat down and told you what was going to happen when I went to “go get Baby Bean.” Since the talk every time I leave the room you will yell out, “where are you going Mama?”

In addition to all the Baby Bean talk and pretend Baby Bean play that is going on you are absolutely obsessed with baseball and baseball players. You put on your baseball helmet and glove and transform yourself into a “baseball player” as you throw the ball around… including indoors if the weather isn’t nice. Then after you are finished you remove the gear and declare, “oh look I back to being Roman.”

The night time routine has become one huge love-fest with you requesting hugs and kisses over and over from both your Dad and myself. Then you say adorable things like, “I love you so much” and request song after song after song be sung by both of us. We eat it up and you have managed to get both your parents hovering over your bed telling you how special you are and how much they love you. You are very clever when you want to be!

Even though we were trying hard to hold off potty training until well after we are settled in with a new baby you have your own agenda and have basically been potty training yourself. The funny thing is that this is totally your personality- as long as something is on your terms you are into it. So you have been regularly going to the bathroom on the toilet twice a day and are just beside yourself with pride. Plus now you will tell me when you’ve gone in your diaper and want to be changed right away.

You have no interest in memorizing the alphabet, little interest in numbers, but you want to say the names of the planets in their order of closeness to the sun over and over! Sometimes you’ll lay on the floor and point to the ceiling and say, “I see Venus Mama.”

You also want to know what everyone’s name is and you’ll ask me, “what’s Nana’s name?” “What’s Mimi’s name?” “What’s Izzie’s mom’s name?” and so on…
One day you asked me what Mimi’s dad’s name was and I told you it was “Thomas” to which you smiled, starting laughing and said, “like Hummus.”

You still love being with your friends, talk about playing with them and really can’t go more than a day without some type of class or playdate with your buddies. If asked what you’d like to do you always have the same response, “go to Turtle Park with Izzie.”

Cute things you’ve been saying:
-When given three things to choose from to eat- “I don’t like these options.”
-Telling me the plan- “First we will go to the park, then we will go get lunch and then we will go read books. Sound like a good plan Mama?”
– “This really is my favorite” said to pretty much anything you are enjoying.
– “Babies are held by Mama, but I can pet them.”
– When your Dad puts on his jacket in the morning- “don’t go to work Daddy.”
– “I need a hug and a kiss.”
– When we explain something to you “ooohhhh okay, I get it.”

We love you!

Mom and Dad
