What I Love About You

by

Dear Roman,

I can count on one hand the times I left you for more than a few hours. So the fact that I’m about to go away for a couple of nights to San Francisco has you slightly unnerved. I think you’re going to be perfectly fine while I’m away, you may actually end up having a lot of fun. But this week leading up to my departure has you (my usually very independent boy) crawling into bed with me at night and staying pretty close during the days. Lately you and I have been going through some challenges- you like to test me a lot and I’m left feeling confused and perplexed by your unusual behavior. I think I’m going to spend my entire life trying to figure you out. But that’s part of what I love about you. Already I can say you’re a complicated individual. You have layers. You’re real and honest and don’t fall for phony or surface stuff. I really admire that about you. Some other things I love about you are:

You have a large vocabulary of adjectives.

That cute piece of hair that sticks up on the back of your head.

You can put together a Lego kit with zero help.

You’re beyond eager to help out and lend a hand at any given moment.

You LOVE books.

You’re not so easily pleased. That just makes it that much better when I can impress you.

You’re sensitive in the right way.

You take your job of being a kid very seriously.

You’re so adorable wearing pajamas.

You share your dad’s love of Muppets.

It never fails that you’ll refer to food “samples” at the grocery store as “stamples.”

You’re a natural at riding a bike.

On rare occasions you’ll engage in very thoughtful conversation.
